On Friday 23rd November the Lifeskills through Sport team visited Kirkhill’s primary 7 class to discuss and address the concerns they had regarding the transition to secondary school.
The LTS team set the class various activities where they had to overcome challenges and barriers. The activities where used to highlight the skills the children possessed and how these skills could be transferred to their life in the High School.
The talk raised both the positive and negative thoughts of the children and the Lifeskills team focussed on flipping the negatives into positives.
The concerns the children had ranged from the class work being too hard for them, not fitting in at the High School, the teachers not being nice and being bullied by others. The LTS team used positive experiences to counteract the negative thoughts and the concerns were talked about within the group. By the end of the session any concern the children had were not as great as they first feared and they were looking forward to the new challenge that lay ahead.
The children also worked on building relationships within their class and they learnt about the skills they would need to make friends in the high school.
