Club to Subsidise Buses to Hampden

The Board of Directors of Ross County Football Club want as many fans as possible to travel to Hampden Park to cheer the team on in the biggest game in the club’s history when we take on Celtic in the semi-final of the Active Nation Scottish Cup on Saturday April 10.

For that reason we have decided to set the price of return travel to Glasgow on coaches hired by the club at £14 per person.  We sincerely hope this will help enable supporters of all ages to make the trip on this truly historic occasion.

Since our fantastic quarter-final win against Hibs last week a great deal of hard work has been going on behind the scenes by the club’s staff and others to arrange affordable transport to Hampden.

Former Ross County Director Don Lawson had hoped to charter a train to carry some 500 fans to Glasgow.  However, the strong possibility of industrial action on the railways over the weekend of the match left him with no option but to reluctantly abandon this plan.

The match also falls on what is a particularly busy weekend for our local bus companies and we quickly found out there were virtually no coaches available in the area.  This meant we had to look further afield to secure the number coaches we need and even the best hire rates we could find came in at double the price we would normally expect to pay.

However, we appreciate that following a football team is expensive, particularly for those fans that go to games regularly with their families.  A successful season certainly adds to the pleasure of being a supporter, but we know it also means more expense.

In light of all these factors, which we have had the opportunity to reflect upon in the few days since the quarter-final replay, we concluded it was right that the club, rather than its fans, should pick up the extra costs of the coach travel.

We know our travelling support will do us and our area proud and we look forward to joining you in cheering on our team at Hampden.

Buses will leave Victoria Park at 06:30 and Strothers Lane in Inverness at 06:50. The club are working to print tickets at the moment and will confirm when these are on sale as soon as possible.
