Journalist and broadcaster Frank Gilfeather is hoping fans attending the Active nation Cup final at Hampden on May 15 will send their memories – and photographs – of the day to be included in his book Ross County: From Highland League to Hampden.
Gilfeather, who writes on football for The Times and the Herald and reports for Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Saturday, believes Ross County’s achievement in reaching the final is worthy of marking in a special way and he is keen to include the fans.
"It's such an inspiring story,” said, “ that I wanted to record it for posterity, given that it is very unlikely to happen again.
"David may already have beaten Goliath when County dismantled Celtic in the semifinal, but Goliath has a Premier League brother in the shape of Dundee United and wouldn't it be fantastic were the Staggies to defeat another big beast?
"I have gone into the history of Ross County, chronicled the Scottish Cup ties against Hibernian and Celtic, spoken with the manager Derek Adams, his father George, the director of football, Roy MacGregor, the president, and others connected with the club. But the fans and their stories are every bit as important.
"It is a book for them as much as anyone else.
"I want to hear of their experiences, not their thoughts on the game, of their big day. I am keen to learn of any adventure they may have en route to Hampden, of people they meet and of incidents they didn't expect to encounter.
"A piece of history is about to be made and I want to capture a flavour of it through the book."
Gilfeather's previous book, Confessions of a Highland Hero, the story of Steve "Pele" Paterson, entered the Scottish best-sellers' charts towards the end of last year.
Anyone interested in contributing to the new book should send their stories and photographs from the big day at Hampden to frank@gilfeather.co.uk |
