Derek's first transfer window in charge has already proved a busy one with the capture of several exciting players to bolster the squad for the rest of the season. Scott Boyd has arrived on a permanent deal having impressed during his loan spell from Partick Thistle while another player has arrived from Firhill in the shape of exciting midfielder Adam Strachan who impressed in the 5-1 demolition of Peterhead on the 2nd of January. Competition for places in midfield will be further increased by the signing of Michael Gardyne from Morton. County fans know what to expect from the attack minded player as he was on loan from Celtic for the whole of the 2006-07 season. Final addition to the squad so far has been the capture of out of contract defender Danny Griffin, but unfortunately the Northern Ireland international picked up an injury in his first training session after putting pen to paper so it is not clear when he will make his debut.
Meanwhile the Club has bid farewell to several players: Iain Anderson, Stephen Skinner, Jason Crooks and Craig Frizzell have all left Victoria Park while Iain Campbell has returned to Kilmarnock at the end of his loan spell. Everyone at Ross County wishes them the very best in their future careers.
Another player to depart Dingwall for pastures new is Under 19 player Alex Cooper. The son of former Aberdeen star and County manager Neale attracted attention from several top level Clubs both North and South of the border but in the end opted to join Gary Mackay Steven at Anfield. The success of the Youth System in getting two players to one of the biggest Clubs in Europe cannot be over-stated and credit for this achievement goes to all the coaches and staff who have been involved in Alex's development. Not only does this raise the Club's profile as a centre of excellence for Youth Development but also provides another funding boost which will be ploughed back into the development of promising youngsters in the months and years to come.
