Football fans have the chance to relive the highlights of Ross County’s historic Scottish Cup run at an evening of celebration in Inverness later this month.
The Dingwall club became the pride of the Highlands by reaching May’s Active Nation Scottish Cup final - knocking out Celtic and Hibs along the way - and taking an incredible 20,000 fans to Hampden Park for the big match.
An official club dvd recalling the cup run will be premiered at the celebration evening at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, on Thursday, 29 July that will also see the launch of a book , Ross County – From Highland League to Hampden. The free event, in the theatre’s 800-seat Empire Theatre, will feature a live set by Highland band Torridon, who turned a Proclaimers’ hit into County’s cup final anthem We’re on Our Way.
Ross County Chairman, Roy MacGregor, said: “Reaching the Scottish Cup Final was a dream come true for everyone who cares about Ross County. And for an area like the Highlands to amass 20,000 people at our national stadium to support the team was almost unbelievable.
“Through the dvd and the book I hope we have captured the excitement in the club and throughout the area in the weeks leading up to the final and on the day itself.
“Like every County fan I will always treasure my memories of this great cup run and I hope as many people as possible will join us to celebrate them again at Eden Court.”
The hour-long dvd, entitled We’re on Our Way, narrated by presenter and commentator Rob MacLean, features every one of the 24 goals County scored during the cup run and interviews with players, manager Derek Adams and other club figures. And the fans have a starring role too as they head to Glasgow in their thousands on a day when a roadside sign famously said: “Last one out of Dingwall switch the lights out!”
Written by journalist and broadcaster Frank Gilfeather, From Highland League to Hampden is a 137-page inside account in of what has come to be seen as one of the great fairytale journeys in Scottish football history. The hardback is superbly illustrated throughout, featuring photographs from the club’s early days in the Highland League, through to their historic Hampden appearance. Again the fans are to the fore, recalling a cup run that exceeded even the most optimistic expectations.
The dvd and book will be on sale on the evening and available to buy through the club and other outlets afterwards. Details of how to obtain tickets for the event will be publicised shortly through local media and on Ross County’s website: www.rosscountyfootballclub.co.uk |
