This initiative will see the LTS team take to the road and deliver a 6 week programme in the Caithness area. Although this course will be piloted in Wick, there is a view to deliver the programme in other areas of the Highlands if it proves to be successful.
The programme will be based at the North Highland College where the students will attend for 3 days a week, Monday to Wednesday, from 11am until 4pm. Within the programme students will attend a 2 week supported work placement in weeks four and five before returning for a review week at the College.
Students will work on developing practical communication, self esteem, confidence and many other valuable skills. This will be achieved through class room based sessions and physical activity.
The content will include amongst other topics:
• Working as part of a group
• Individual Strengths and Weaknesses
• Barriers to progress
• Communication skills
• Physical activity
• Individual goal setting and Action Plans
• Basic fitness measurements
• Advice on diet and lifestyle
• Group discussion
• Interview techniques
• Telephone technique
• Keyboard skills
• Employers view point
The emphasis on each topic will depend upon the needs of the group and individuals within it.
