Steven Craig scored another late winner as the team progressed
to the third round of the Scottish Communities League Cup with a
2-1 victory over Hamilton Academical.
County were behind as early as the second minute when James
Chambers scored a penalty for Hamilton, but the Staggies created
more chances than their hosts as they sought revenge for the 5-1
league defeat ten days earlier. On 60 minutes Michael Gardyne got
the equaliser that the teams play merited with a superb strike from
outside the box. With less than 10 minutes to go Steven Craig
pounced on a mix up between keeper and defender to steal the ball
and steer it into the empty net - and County into the Third round
of the competition for the third season in a row.
While the team will now be focused on Saturday's legaue match
away to Falkirk, fans eager to know the Staggies third round
opponents will be focused on the Falkirk Stadium even earlier as
the Bairns host the third round draw this Friday at 14:00. County
are unseeded and while all the seeded teams will not be confirmed
until the remaining second round ties are completed tonight, both
Rangers and Celtic will be in the other pot as will Dundee United
who have narrowly beaten County at Victoria Park at this stage of
the competition for the past two years.
