Ross County
made it 5 wins in a row and 9 league games (or to put it into
perspective 25% of the season) without defeat as they emerged 2-0
winners over Morton.
Stuart Kettlewell's run put him in the perfect position to slot
home the opener from Colin McMenamin's cross in the 34th minute
after the forward was set free on the left wing following a neat
interchange of passes. Although County had the better
opportunities, it was not until the 95th minute that the 3 points
were definitely secured after Mark Corcoran found fellow substitute
Kurtis Byrne in the box. Former County keeper Colin Stewart managed
to turn the Irishman's initial effort on to the bar, but somehow
the rebound ended up in the net to guarantee the Staggies remained
top of the table for another week.
Falkirk's win over Raith keeps the pressure on as the Bairns
remain just 3 points behind in second place ahead of this weekend's
fixtures, when County make another trip down the A9 to take on
Partick Thistle. The Jags won away to Dundee on Saturday moving
them up to 4th so Jackie McNamara's men go into the match on a
high, however there is plenty of motivation for County who know
that avoiding defeat would guarantee that they remain at the summit
for another week going in to the match against Falkirk at Victoria
Park on the 12th.
County will be hoping to benefit from a good support at Firhill,
as the Black Isle Supporters Club are intending to run a supporters
bus to the match. Full details can be found in the separate story, but seats are priced at £14
each and can be booked through the Main Reception at Ross County on
01349 860860.
