Ross County signed off September undefeated after a goalless draw at Rugby Park. In a highly entertaining match that included a missed penalty the Staggies pick up 7 out of a possible 9 points in the month of September.
The first chance of the match fell to Michael Gardyne. He caught on to a loose cross-field ball and took the ball forward but unfortunately his strike went over the top of Branescu’s goal.
Killie then grew in to the game with Liam Millar’s shot going just wide of the left hand post. That, prior to an Osman Sow effort that pulled a good save from Ross Laidlaw. Sow, shooting from all of 25 yards making the County keeper get down low to his right.
Rory McKenzie had the best chance of the opening exchanges. Stephen O’Donnell sent a ball behind the Staggies back line and McKenzie managed to stay onside but his shot cannoned off the near post and kept the game level.
Laidlaw was forced in to action very quickly in the second half. The keeper managing to get strong hands to an Alex Bruce header from point blank range.
The major talking point of the game came on 64 minutes. Marcus Fraser was tracking the run of Liam Millar down the right hand side and Fraser went to ground. The referee adjudged the situation to be a foul and pointed to the penalty spot. Osman Sow stepped up but sent a weak effort to the right of Laidlaw. The Staggies keeper getting a great save to the effort and keeping the game level.
Substitute Brian Graham had an ideal chance to steal the game in the last minute for the Staggies. He was picked out at the back post from a Ross Stewart cross but with only the keeper to beat, sent his header over the bar.
The game ends pointless but sees the Staggies extend their unbeaten run to 3 games ahead of our home match v St Johnstone next weekend.
