Ross County gained another vital Premiership point as they drew 0-0 with Hearts in Dingwall. In a strong home performance the Staggies past up numerous chances to take the points but the clean sheet for both sides means the 8 point gap remains between the club.
Just 3 minutes in to the match and Billy McKay was presented with the first clear cut opportunity. McKay was neatly played in behind the Hearts defence but he fired straight at goalkeeper Perierra who used his body to block the ball. Jordan Tillson would have the next best opening. Josh Mullin was set free on the right hand side and his cross came to Tillson just on the edge of the box but the midfielders effort was blocked by the defence and cleared to safety.
Mullin would again be provider when he was cleverly picked out by Blair Spittal from a set play. Mullin sent in an inch-perfect cross on to the head of Coll Donaldson who from 8 yards out headed just over the cross bar. Billy McKay would again find himself with the chance to open the scoring. He capitalised on a soft header from Souttar back to his goalkeeper and McKay nicked in front of Perierra to put the ball goalwards but aimed just wide of goal to keep the game stalemate at the break.
The second half started spritely again for the Staggies. Lee Erwin set Josh Mullin free and the midfielder drove 30 yards with the ball before sending in a low cross that was comfortably held by the Hearts stopper. The visitors first clear cut opportunity would come moments later and 10 minutes in to the second half. Neat interplay between Connor Washington and Steven Naismith saw the latter play in Washington who aimed too high and his shot went horribly over.
Just a minute later and the Staggies were again defending their area. Baxter was put under pressure by Bozanic and when gathering the ball fell to the ground causing the ball to be released but as played scrambled around, Baxter brilliantly got to Bozanic feet to recapture the ball.
Lee Erwin was very unlucky not to put County ahead midway through the second half. After Billy McKay was set free his run was blocked with Erwin collecting the ball on the edge of the box and dispatching a lethal drive from 25 yards. His drive was blocked and the Staggies earned a corner which didn’t create as good an opportunity.
It would be Erwin who again would find himself with a guilt edge chance to put Ross County ahead. Neat interplay saw Coll Donaldson chip the ball over the last defender to find Erwin in space but his half-volley rebounded off Perierra to give the Staggies another corner.
Substitute and new signing Oli Shaw almost gave the journalists the story they were looking for when he found himself through on the left hand side. As the striker pulled the trigger Craig Halkett got in an all important block to stop the shot heading for goal.
That would prove to be the end of the clear cut chances and the Staggies and Hearts would have to settle for a point a piece keeping the gap between the Staggies and the Edinburgh side to 8 points.
