Missed chances would come back to haunt Ross County as they narrowly missed out on a point against second places Rangers. After Ryan Kent’s goal 13 minutes before the end the three points went down to Ibrox with Steven Gerrard’s side.
The Staggies had the best chance of the opening exchanges. Josh Mullin found himself in space on the right and his well driven cross was headed clear by Edmundson, the Rangers defender managing to clear it just the right side of the post.
Just moments later and the visitors would exercise their attacking prowess. Ryan Kent cutting in from the left-hand side and pulling a fine save from Ross Laidlaw. The follow ups from Kamara and Morelos blocked to the away fans dismay.
Ross County would then go on another dangerous attack. Iain Vigurs picking up the ball on the centre spot and managing to find Josh Mullin on the right with a fantastic pass. Midfielder, Mullin took a touch to set himself before cutting the ball back, however it was just behind the on-rushing Billy Mckay who would have had the easiest of tap-ins.
With Rangers dominating possession and having a considerable amount of corners, they were unable to convert. Marcus Fraser would then send a good cross in from the right. His cross would find Liam Fontaine at the back post but his header back across had no takers.
Steven Davis would test Ross Laidlaw just before the break. The ball falling to the midfielder on the edge of the box but his shot was too tame and Laidlaw managed to gather well.
Just five minutes after the break and County would be presented with a prize opportunity to take the lead. Cowie managed to steal the ball from Joe Aribo in the final third and cut it back to Billy Mckay who took a touch before hammering the ball goalwards. Allan McGregor pulling off a tremendous save from 8 yards to deny the hosts going ahead.
Rangers would then have a good opportunity to take the lead. Borna Barisic saw his freekick blocked by the Staggies wall but the ball fell back to Ianis Hagi who drove the ball low towards goal but Laidlaw was equal to the shot.
The home side would find themselves with yet another ideal opportunity to take the lead just on the hour. Jordan Tillson managing to win the ball in the midfield before Josh Mullin made a driving run inside from the right. He managed to slip the ball through a gap to Ross Stewart who was coming in from the left hand side of the box but the striker mis-cued his hit and the ball went high over the bar.
Josh Mullin, would then have a chance himself just minutes later. He picked up the ball on the left hand side of the box and hammered an effort towards the near post but McGregor managed to get fingertips to it, and pushed it over the bar.
Joe Aribo’s header had to be cleared off the line with 18 minutes remaining. He rose highest at a corner and flicked the ball towards the back post. With the ball destined to go over the line, Vigurs managed to divert it clear with his own head and keep the match at stalemate.
The match would be won with just 13 minutes remaining. Ryan Kent was picked out on the right hand side and he cut in before unleashing a low effort towards goal. With the ball taking two deflections on its way goalwards, it managed to squeeze in to the bottom left hand side of the goal and give the away side a key advantage.
The Staggies ruing missed chances as the match drew to a close. Its now on to a home match against Hamilton next Saturday for County.
