Ross County claimed their first league win of 2020 after a brilliant 2-0 victory over Livingston at the Global Energy Stadium. A goal in either half from Billy McKay sealed 3 vital points for the Staggies, in a match that could have seen the home side win by a bigger margin.
The Staggies went ahead after just two minutes. A great pick out to Marcus Fraser at the back post was cut back to Billy McKay who managed to set himself just right to hammer the ball back across goal and in to the bottom left hand corner beyond Livi goalkeeper McCrorie.
Harry Paton almost doubled the Staggies lead just moments later. Sean Kelly’s left hand side cross was flashed back across goal and found Harry Paton. The midfielder sending a strong effort towards the near top left hand corner, but it took the slightest of deflections to send it the wrong side of the goal.
Just on the half hour Marcus Fraser had a perfect opportunity to double the Staggies lead. Lee Erwin made a lovely turn on the left and dinked a great ball to the back post where Marcus Fraser was making a late run. The full back unlucky not to get a toe on to the ball and divert it past the keeper.
Livi’s best chance of the opening 45 came when a ball was sent in to the Staggies box and made its way through to an unmarked Lyndon Dykes but he could only fire against the side netting of the near post.
The Staggies would double their lead just before the hour. Iain Vigurs intercepted the ball on the half way line before playing a perfect pass beyond the Livi defence where Billy McKay was running through. McKay rounded keeper McCrorie and sent the ball in to the net to send the County fans in to ecstasy.
Just 5 minutes later and the Staggies could have made it 3. Sean Kelly sent a fantastic cross in from the left and as Keeper McCrorie came off his line Billy McKay got in front of the keeper and managed to get a faint touch on the ball, not enough to divert it in to the empty net.
The best chance of the remainder of the match would fall to Marcus Fraser. Lee Erwin would set Fraser free on the right and he drove for goal before sending his shot just wide of target.
It’s a great 3 points for Ross County and the team will look to add to them when we travel to Easter Road next Wednesday.
