Michael McGovern Signs for Staggies

Head Coach Derek Adams completed another signing ahead of the start of pre-season training, with Northern Irish goalie Michael McGovern the latest arrival at Victoria Park.

The 24 year old shot stopper arrives following a season with Dundee United, having previously been with Celtic – where as a 19 year old he sat on the bench as the Hoops drew 0-0 with Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

Derek is delighted to bring in a player who, though still young, has experience at the very highest level, “Michael is an excellent signing for us. He’s a big lad and an excellent shot-stopper, and the experience of training alongside the likes of Artur Boruc and Lukasz Zaluska who are both world class keepers is invaluable for someone so young.”

Derek confirmed that he expects a fight for the number 1 jersey as Joe Malin looks to build on the first team experience he picked up in the second half of last season, “We’ve obviously known for some time what a promising talent Joe is and he proved that by competing with Derek Soutar last season. Having two hungry young keepers fighting for the starting place will bring out the best in both of them and of course as Head Coach that’s exactly what I want – players competing with each other for their positions.”

Michael joined up with the rest of the squad for the first day of pre-season training – unfortunately for him just in time for the dreaded beep test.

Craig Brewster Confirmed as Assistant Head Coach

With just over a month to go until the first competitive fixture, Ross County have secured a key signature with Craig Brewster taking on the role of Assistant Head Coach for the 2009/10 season.

Having arrived in January, Craig played an important role both on and off the pitch for the Staggies in the second half of season 2008/09 – helping secure survival in the First Division with hard work both on the training field and the pitch.

Derek sees the appointment as a massive boost ahead of pre-season training, which starts on Thursday the 25th of June, “I’ve known and admired Craig for a number of years and his arrival at the start of the year was a massive boost to the Club, bringing with him as a he did a wealth of experience both as a player and as a coach. His energy, enthusiasm and professionalism set a great example for the players and his knowledge of the game at the very highest level are a great resource to have within the Club. We have formed a great relationship and are both now looking forward to working with the squad ahead of what promises to be a tough but exciting season."
