Aberdeen West End 3-2 Ross County Women

Ross County Women were back in competitive action after a long break, and what a performance from the ladies!!

It took the ladies a few minutes to find their pace, which was to be expected, but once we settled into the game we played some really great football. The work rate, attitude and drive to compete were there for everyone to see and the girls should be incredibly proud of how they performed.

Our opening goal was one to remember. Helen Urquhart spotted the opportunity from a free kick just inside Aberdeen’s half and hit an absolute rocket that found its’ way into the back of the net. It was a moment of real quality that had the County side cheering.

Aberdeen West End responded well, but the girls never stopped giving their all. In the second half, Jazzy Nicholson picked up the ball on the right, drove at the defence and unleashed a powerful strike into the far corner. It was a brilliant goal and a well earned reward for all the hard work the team had put in.
In the end, a couple of small mistakes were punished and that’s sometimes the fine margins in football. We’ll learn from them and move on.

There are far more positives than negatives to take from today. Considering how long it’s been since the girls last played together the football they produced was excellent at times and they showed exactly the character and quality we know they’re capable of.

A special mention goes to our Player of the Match, Jazzy Nicholson. Jazzy was outstanding today. She took on every bit of instruction, applied it brilliantly on the pitch, and never stopped working for the team. She’s always looking to improve her game, always willing to learn, and today’s performance showed exactly why she’s such an important part of this squad. Her attitude, commitment and desire to keep getting better are a fantastic example for everyone, and she’s a credit to Ross County Women.

A big thank you to Aberdeen West End for being such welcoming hosts. It was a competitive game played in a fantastic spirit and we wish them all the best for the rest of the competition.

Well done, girls. Keep playing like that, keep believing in yourselves, and the results will come.
