Academy Graduates sign new deals

08/06/2021

Ross County Academy Graduates Ross Munro, Adam MacKinnon, Matthew Wright and Ben Williamson have all signed new one-year deals at the Global Energy Stadium.

All four players have struggled for game time over the past season due to the COVID-19 pandemic but have been rewarded for their hard work across the season. Ross Munro, who has previously had loan spells with Brora Rangers, Cowdenbeath, Annan Athletic and Raith Rovers, already holds a Scottish Championship winners medal, Irn Bru Challenge Cup winners medal and North of Scotland Cup winners medal. Adam, Matthew and Ben were all given 1st team debuts in season 2020/21 during pre-season friendlies and our Betfred Cup campaign.

Manager Malky Mackay said “All four of these players demonstrate the success of our academy and the potential that lies right here within the Highlands. It has been a tough year for these guys as due to logistics they haven’t managed to get out on loan. We want to give these boys an opportunity to continue their development and to try and progress here.”

Ross Munro said “I am delighted to sign for another year. Last season we had some great competition within the goalkeepers, and I felt it really helped my development, so the aim is to continue that again this season.”

Matthew Wright said “Last season was really tough, but I am grateful to sign my new contract. To have the opportunity last season to train with the 1st team on a regular basis and be in that environment, has helped me and hopefully I can keep learning and developing this season.”

Ben Williamson said “It was great to get some 1st team experience last season and it certainly builds up that hunger to keep developing. I was disappointed to pick up an injury close to the end of season, and my focus right now is getting myself back to fitness.”

Adam MacKinnon said “Given how tough last season was, it’s really exciting to sign for another season. I was lucky enough to be in and around the 1st team last season and it certainly pushed me on, hopefully I can keep progressing.”
