Alexander Robertson joins The Staggies

Ross County FC are delighted to announce the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Alexander Robertson on a season-long loan from Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Alexander, son of former Dundee & St. Johnstone midfielder Mark Robertson, started his career Hokoah Sydney East FC, where he was scouted by and signed for Manchester United. After two seasons with Manchester United’s elite academy teams, Alexander signed scholarship forms with Manchester City, quickly progressing through their U-18s and their EDS teams. He has made a name for himself as an energetic, box-to-box midfielder, with a keen eye for goal from open play and dead balls, scoring regularly for Manchester City and England’s underage teams in the last two seasons.

Alexander made his senior professional debut for Manchester City last season against Tranmere Rovers in the 2019/20 EFL Check-a-trade Trophy, while also having a breakout season in 20/21, scoring 17 goals last season across the 18s and 23s, on his way to picking up a PL2 trophy as league winners.

Alexander has also played international football for Australia at U-15 level, but most recently has represented England at U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels. Alexander could also represent Peru (through his mother) as well as Scotland (through his grandparents).

Manager Malky Mackay said,

“We are delighted to have signed Alexander, someone I have been tracking personally for nearly 4 years. He has scored goals for every team he has played with, and the variety of goals he scores, off both feet as well as set plays, has really caught the eye. Alexander also brings an energy, hard work and tenacity to our midfield group, as well as a youthful vibrance and an elite mentality”.

“There were a number of clubs interested in Alexander as he is a really promising young talent and I am happy that we will be able to play our part in this stage of his development and will be really eager to impress our supporters and we are really excited to be working with him.”

“We would like to thank Manchester City for allowing us to be part of Alexanders development, we look forward to showcasing his talents in the Scottish Premiership”.
