Captain Keith signs new contract

11/03/2022

Club Captain Keith Watson has today penned a new one-year deal at the Global Energy Stadium.

Keith made his 100th appearance for Ross County against Dundee in February and has been an integral part of the Staggies defence since joining in Summer 2018. As well as helping the side to a Championship and Challenge Cup double in 2018/19, Keith has played his part in Ross County’s successful Premiership campaigns in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

This season Keith was given the Captain’s armband and has featured 20 times under Malky Mackay. With his new deal Keith will stay at the Global Energy Stadium for a 5th season, his second longest spell at a club in his career. At 32, Keith is a senior player at the club and an important figure in the dressing room.

On re-signing Keith, Manager Malky Mackay has said “Keith is a top professional that every Manager loves to have at their club. He has a fantastic attitude, he is a good communicator and a leader which our young players really feed off. As well as that Keith now has over 100 appearances for Ross County and he knows exactly what Ross County is and what it means to represent this club, so it’s great to have somebody like him here when you are integrating new players who can seek advice from him.”

“Keith has been a fantastic servant to Ross County and has brought success to the club over his four years here with promotion to the Premiership and the Challenge Cup victory, so we are delighted that he has extended his stay with us.”
