Stuart gives his reaction

30/11/2020

Involved in the Hampden Glory of 2010, Ross County Manager Stuart Kettlewell again found himself in the position of overcoming Glasgow’s green and white in Cup competition, this time as manager.

Goals from Ross Stewart and Alex Iacovitti gave the Staggies their pathway into the Quarter Finals of this seasons Betfred League Cup and Stuart Kettlewell was pleased to see his game plan for the tough tie at Celtic Park come to fruition.

“We go into every single game with a game plan, there is not a week goes by, irrespective of who we are playing against, we always work on a shape and system and how we are going to play.”

“I felt like it worked to a tee (against Celtic), and as I say, you do come down and get a bit of a free hit at it in the sense that everybody expects Celtic to get a bounce from midweek and come back out fighting but we got through the key parts of the game, the start of the first half where we have conceded goals here in the past, the start of the second half and we take our opportunities when they come.”

The Staggies were the last team to defeat the hoops in Cup competition back in 2016 enroute to the League Cup victory. For Stuart Kettlewell it was a performance that ticked many boxes.

“I’m delighted for how we defended as a team, but also how we attacked as a team as well, we have one or two opportunities ourselves and I felt we were comfortable for large parts as well. It takes a lot to that and all the credit has to go to the players, none of it goes to myself or anything like that, they have to take the credit for it because they took the flack for it last weekend after a bad showing.”

“We have got a bit of history ourselves in the upset, I have been part of one or two and I’ve just said to the players there that they now have their chapter in it, they have this memory but more importantly it takes us in to the next round of the cup.”
