Three Staggies turn out in Highland League action

26/07/2022

Three Young Staggies turned out for Highland League sides over the weekend, as the fifth tier kicked off with a bang across the North of Scotland. Logan Ross, Ryan MacLeman and Connall Ewan all played as they look to continue their development. Here, we take a look at their progress.

Logan Ross

Goalkeeper Logan Ross has re-joined Highland League outfit Lossiemouth on loan for the 2022/23 campaign, having turned out for the Coasters 32 times last season in all competitions.

His second debut in Moray came on Saturday in his side’s Highland League opener against Formartine United at Grant Park, with Lossie losing out 3-1. Mark Gallagher gave United the lead on just four minutes before Scott Lisle doubled the advantage on 21 minutes. Things got worse for Lossie just after half an hour via Julian Wade.

The Coasters did manage to pull a goal back before the break with a superb piece of work from Martin Charlesworth before a gift came the way of Ross’ side with a penalty to further reduce the deficit. However, United keeper Ewan MacDonald made a save.

Ross did however make a good impression to mark his second debut, pulling off a wonderful save in injury time to deny Lisle a second. Lossiemouth are next in action on Saturday against Deveronvale.

Ryan MacLeman

18-year old midfielder Ryan Macleman signed his first professional contract with the Staggies in the summer of 2021 and after picking up experience in the Highland league last term, has joined Forres Mechanics.

Macleman signed for Clachnacuddin on loan last term making three appearances from the bench, but made his first senior start when he joined the Cans this summer. He played the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Strathspey Thistle.

Connall Ewan

At 16, Connall Ewan made his senior debut on Saturday, sharing the pitch with fellow loanee MacLeman. Ewan started the match and also played a full 90 in the emphatic win which saw the Cans go joint top of the Highland League on Match-Day One. Forres are next in action as they host Brechin City on Saturday.
