MATCH PREVIEW | Celtic v Ross County

10/11/2022

Challenges don’t come much harder than this weekend for Malky Mackay and his side as they travel to face 2021/22 Premiership Champions and current league leaders Celtic in Glasgow.

With two wins from two matches, The Staggies will travel with confidence to Celtic Park but knowing the steep challenge that lies ahead against Ange Postecoglou’s side.

TEAM NEWS

Thankfully there have been no further losses for Malky Mackay to deal with given the injury list that currently faces the Ross County Manager.

With Connor Randall, Ben Purrington, Ben Paton, Alex Samuel and Ross Callachan all out it has been a demanding period for the Ross County Manager. Jack Baldwin missed Tuesday night’s win at Easter Road and will be assessed ahead of this weekends trip to face Celtic.

TALE OF THE TAPE

Ross County Manager Malky Mackay expressed his frustration after the first meeting between the sides earlier in the season. Having drawn level on the hour mark, there were only 6 minutes left before Celtic went on to win the match in Dingwall with County having defended valiantly on the day in an impressive opening home match of the 2022/23 cinch Premiership campaign.

Ross County’s last league win over Celtic came in February 2020, when Jordan White’s second half header secured all three points for The Staggies in Dingwall.

Of the meetings last season there is no doubt the bitter nature of Celtic’s 97th minute winner last December still reverberates around large sections of the Ross County support.

THE OPPOSITION

Celtic have become a domestic machine since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou. In the Australian’s first season he scooped both the ViaPlay Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership trophies and has had a very strong start to the 2022/23 cinch Premiership campaign.

Having found a settled spine to his side with players such as Joe Hart, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Matt O’Riley & Kyogo there is no doubt that Celtic have one of, if not the, strongest squad in the Scottish top-flight.

Our opposition also showed some strong displays in the Champions League this year and will feel hard done by not to progress from the Group stage given the quality of their play against some of Europe’s biggest names. Celtic have found a way to compete on all fronts so far this campaign with little disruption to their domestic form.
