MATCH PREVIEW | Kilmarnock v Ross County

18/10/2022

County head for Rugby Park this weekend, where we will face off with Derek McInnes’ Kilmarnock side for the second time this campaign. With the league table as tight as it has been to date, this could be a key fixture for both sides in Ayrshire this weekend.

TEAM NEWS

Ben Purrington joins Connor Randall, George Harmon & Alex Samuel on the injury list. The defender picked up an ankle injury during last weekend’s draw with Dundee United that is likely to keep him out for a sustained period of time.

TALE OF THE TAPE

When Ross County and Kilmarnock clash it tends to be a feisty affair. In 31 meetings between the two sides, only 6 have ended with a draw, and this fixture across 31 meetings has offered, on average, three goals a game.

Earlier this season the two sides did meet in Dingwall for their first cinch Premiership clash that did see County come away with a late winner. Owura Edwards 86th minute goal proved to be the defining moment that saw Malky Mackay’s team claim their first league win of the campaign.

THE OPPOSITION

Kilmarnock join Ross County and Dundee United with 9 points from their opening 11 fixtures sitting as the bottom three at present.

The Ayrshire side are however on the back of two draws and a victory in their last three league matches. A 0-0 draw in Paisley against St Mirren last weekend, a late equaliser kept Killie to a 2-2 home draw with Hearts the previous weekend and Derek McInnes managed to guide is side to a 2-1 home win over St Johnstone on 5th October.

Kilmarnock’s only other league win this season came at home against Motherwell, where they triumphed 2-1 on 27th August.

Former Ross County midfielder Danny Armstrong has also had major impact on his Killie side- key goals have taken him to the top of the clubs goal scorers chart during a real purple patch in recent weeks.
