MATCH PREVIEW | Rangers v RCFC

02/02/2023

Ross County face off with Rangers for the third time this season as Ibrox waits for Malky Mackay and his side.

TEAM NEWS

It will almost be as you were for County from Tuesday night for the Manager with Ben Purrington & Ben Paton being his only two absentees with long term injuries. Nohan Kenneh will be added back to the group after being unable to face his parent club, Hibernian, in midweek.

Malky has been boosted with the further addition of Simon Murray to his attacking ranks which will add to the competition from January arrivals Josh Stones & Eamonn Brophy.

TALE OF THE TAPE

So far it has been two defeats for County at the hands of Rangers this campaign.

County were aggrieved at the 4-0 defeat in Govan earlier this season. With the game finely poised at 0-0 Rangers James Sands hauled down Jordy Hiwula who had a clear run at goal but referee Don Robertson opted not to send the Rangers defender off. The hosts would go on and win the match by a four-goal margin thanks to strikes from Lundstram & Davis with a Colak brace sandwiched in-between.

The festive Dingwall meeting was a much tighter affair. With Ross County missing two first half golden opportunities, John Lundstram was again on target for the visitors who claimed a very narrow 1-0 win in the Highlands.

THE OPPOSITION

Manager Michael Beale is undefeated in his first 9 league games as Rangers Manager. Since his arrival the Ibrox side have won 8 and drawn 1 of their 9 fixtures, a statistic that will give the hosts a huge amount of confidence to build on. The Ibrox side are also in to the League Cup final where they will face Celtic after overcoming Aberdeen 2-1 at the national stadium.

Rangers come in to this match on the back of a 3-0 victory at Tynecastle in midweek where Alfredo Morelos bagged a brace and Malik Tillman notched.

In recent week’s Michael Beale has been boosted by January additions such as Todd Cantwell as well as the return from injury of key players such as Connor Goldson & Antonio Colak.
