MATCH PREVIEW | RCFC v Kilmarnock

26/01/2023

The cinch Premiership very rarely fails to deliver and this weekend supporters at the Global Energy Stadium will be looking for exactly that as the bottom two clash in the Highlands.

With County behind Kilmarnock by only 3 points, its all to play for come 3.00pm on Saturday.

TEAM NEWS

Malky Mackay will only be without long term absentee’s Ben Purrington & Ben Paton for this match. Alex Samuel made his long-awaited return to action last weekend as the Manager will be left with a big group to pick from.

New signings Josh Stones & Eamonn Brophy will be available for the fixture and will add to Malky’s group for the clash in the Highlands.

TALE OF THE TAPE

This seasons two meetings have been close, tense encounters and Saturday doesn’t look like it will be any different.

County won the opening match between the two 1-0 back in August. With 10 minutes remaining in the fixture Ross Callachan saw red and left the pitch, but just 5 minutes later Owura Edwards hammered home from close range to keep all three points in the Highlands.

The second meeting, at Rugby Park, saw the home side pick up all three points thanks to Daniel Armstrong’s 20th minute strike. The Staggies also lost Ross Callachan to injury early in a game that County created chances but couldn’t convert.

THE OPPOSITION

With Kilmarnock’s return to the cinch Premiership always going to strengthen the league, the Ayr-shire side have certainly made a fist of their promotion back to the top tier.

Derek McInnes’ side currently sit in 11th, just three points ahead of County having played 22 games. In their results to date they have won five, drawn five and lost 12, scoring 19 and conceding 38 in the process.

The undoubted highlight for Killie so far this season will be their trip to Hampden in the semi-finals of the ViaPlay League Cup where they narrowly lost out to Celtic after a valiant performance at the national stadium.
