MATCH PREVIEW | Ross County v St Mirren

03/11/2022

Ross County and St Mirren face off for the second time this campaign on Saturday with County looking to avenge a 1-0 narrow defeat in Paisley.

TEAM NEWS

Thankfully for Malky Mackay there were no further injuries added from the game against Hearts last weekend with key players facing long-term lay offs for County at present. Connor Randall, Ben Purrington, Ross Callachan, Alex Samuel & Ben Paton are all out of action.

The Ross County Manager will be looking to get through to the World Cup break without losing any more of his group to injury.

Ross County come in to this one on the back of two impressive displays against Kilmarnock and Hearts with summer additions such as Yan Dhanda and Owura Edwards showing strong performances in their last two outings.

TALE OF THE TAPE

Last season it was a win, a draw and a defeat for County in the three meeting with St Mirren with the only league meeting this campaign coming back in August.

A tense early season affair at the SMiSA stadium back in the early stages of the 2022/23 campaign saw the home side run out 1-0 winners in the searing heat of late summer. Richard Tait’s sublime second half strike keeping all three points in Paisley for Stephen Robinson’s side.

Can The Staggies avenge an early season defeat to The Buddies in Dingwall?

THE OPPOSITION

Stephen Robinson has certainly presided over a positive period for the Paisley outfit. In recent weeks results have led St Mirren in to the top six- a position they will hope to retain heading into the World Cup break.

A strong focus on recruitment in the summer, coupled with a very distinct style of play have seen The Buddies be dangerous opponents for any team in the division across the campaign so far. Built on a robust 3-5-2 system, Stephen Robinson will be looking to deploy similar tactics to what has, so far, helped them reach the top half of the cinch Premiership in the early weeks of the season.

The key additions of Mark O’Hara, Declan Gallagher, Alex Gogic and Trevor Carson have certainly bolstered Robinson’s ranks with Scottish football experience. Further new additions Jonah Ayunga, Ryan Strain and Keanu Baccus seem to have settled well into the Scottish game so far as they take on their first campaigns at the SMiSA stadium.
