MATCH PREVIEW | St Mirren v Ross County

17/02/2023

Ross County return to cinch Premiership action this weekend with a trip to Paisley. The Staggies will face off with The Buddies for the third time this season as both clubs continue to build towards the climax of the 2022/23 campaign.

TEAM NEWS

Ben Paton has successfully completed his knee surgery in Canada and will begin his lengthy recovery process. Ben Purrington is also working on his recovery from injury after an ankle injury sustained in October.

Eamonn Brophy misses out against his parent club.

TALE OF THE TAPE

It’s a win apiece so far this season for Ross County and St Mirren.

During a sweltering summer afternoon in Paisley the home side ran out early season 1-0 winners thanks to a Richard Tate strike.

The reverse fixture in Dingwall would see County run out 3-2 winners. An early Jordan White goal was cancelled out by Ryan Strain & Mark O’Hara strikes which would see Stephen Robinson’s side go in 2-1 up at the break. However, a first Ross County goal for midfielder Jordan Tillson, and a George Harmon header would secure the points for County.

THE OPPOSITION

Buddies fans will be happy with their sides progress so far this season with St Mirren currently sitting in 6th position on 33 points from their 25 matches. With a remarkable home record, Stephen Robinson and his side have made Paisley a very difficult place to go, and they will be looking to continue that strong home form across the remainder of the campaign.

A narrow 2-1 loss in midweek to Motherwell will be a frustration for the West of Scotland outfit but with nine wins and six draws so far this campaign, they have managed to react very well to earlier setbacks in the season.

St Mirren goalkeeper Trevor Carson currently sits third in the clean sheet table- keeping his goal clear on 7 occasions, only David Marshall and Joe Hart boast better records. Only Rangers, Celtic and Livingston have conceded less goals than St Mirren this campaign, however the feisty Buddies have recorded the most fouls in the league this season (343).
