Ross County u16 Girls 2-2 Ayr

The U16 YPL girls were back in league action, hosting Ayr on Saturday lunchtime in Alness. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
The girls started well and were probing the visitors’ defence but found themselves 1 down on ten minutes when they were undone by some smart Ayr play and an equally clever finish.
Both teams created opportunities but it was Ayr who doubled their advantage five minutes before the interval with a sensationally struck free kick from distance.
The girls started the second half with vigour, and earned a penalty in the 50th minute when an Ayr defender handled inside the box following a teasing corner from Ellie-May Macdonald. Megan Colson stepped up and cooly slotted home from 12 yards.
As the girls looked for an equaliser, Ayr looked to restore their two goal cushion. Twice they went close, thwarted on each occasion by terrific goalkeeping from Fara Sutherland.
As the clocked ticked toward injury time, County drew level. A set piece eventually saw the ball land in front of Millie Dean, who diverted it home.
Player of the Match
With her team’s foothold in the match balancing precariously at 2-1, Fara Sutherland provided stellar saves in the County goal, keeping the game alive long enough to secure a share of the spoils.
