Steven Ferguson | SPFL CEO OF THE YEAR

16/05/2023

Ross County Chief Executive Steven Ferguson has been recognised as the SPFL’s CEO of the Year at the prestigious Football Business Awards.

Chief Executives from the top four English leagues, and the Scottish top-flight, have all been recognised and are all now in contention to win the overall CEO of the Year prize.

Steven has been recognised by other Chairman and CEOs across the SPFL as they voted to name the SPFL CEO of the year for the 2022/2023 season at the Football Business Awards.

Steven has a long affinity with the football club which began in 1996 when he joined from Dunfermline Athletic as a player. He remained in Dingwall for 7 years before signing for Ayr United.

In 2010, he returned to the club as part of the coaching staff, becoming the Club’s first Academy Director, a position he held for 4 years before being appointed First Team Co-Manager alongside Stuart Kettlewell in 2018. The pair would go on to win the SPFL Championship and Challenge Cup ensuring Ross County’s immediate return to the Premiership in May 2019.

In June 2020, Steven was asked by Chairman Roy MacGregor to become Chief Executive Officer of Ross County which meant him stepping away from the dug-out and into the boardroom. He successfully helped navigate the club through the difficult COVID era of football and remains a strong guiding figure for the football club.

Chairman Roy Macgregor had this to say on the award win ‘Steven has had a long relationship with the club and the area. He fully embodies the values and vision of the club every day and his knowledge, experience and leadership within the club is valued greatly. It is fantastic to see this recognised by his peers in the voting for this award.’

Manager Malky Mackay added ‘Steven Ferguson has been an incredible shoulder to lean on in my time since I joined the club. His knowledge of the game and experience of running every aspect of our club is evident for all to see.

His work ethic, humility, and warm nature shines through and I’m delighted that this prestigious accolade has been awarded to a man who lives and breathes the values of Ross County FC.'

Steven commented on his award win 'This award has come as a bit of a surprise but it only comes around if you are involved with good people and I lead a small but very dedicated team here at Ross County FC who strive to be ‘more than just a football club’ which keeps our unique football club from the Highlands of Scotland competing at the top end of Scottish Football both on and off the pitch so I’m delighted and extremely grateful to accept this award on behalf of my team and take this opportunity to thank them all for their efforts.'
