"The boys are upbeat" Iain Vigurs

Ross County captain, Iain Vigurs, has reflected on last week’s 2-1 defeat to Motherwell at the Global Energy Stadium.

Vigurs, who was facing a former club on Wednesday revealed how tough the defeat was to take but reassured supporters that County will look to avenge the defeat this week against Hamilton Academical.

“Against Motherwell, for me personally, it was a real sore one. First half we did not play particularly well but we got the goal and were in a position where we could go and win the game. The second half did not go the way we wanted it to go and we let ourselves down.

“As I said, it was a real sore one, but, once again, we have got another game against a team that is around us and we have to win it! It does not matter how we do it, we just need to get the 3 points on the board.”

Vigurs also admitted that he is under no illusion that his side are facing a relegation battle this season, but he is convinced that recent defeats have not played on the minds of the squad:

“It is just becoming one of those where, I know it’s an old cliché, but every game that you play against a team around you is a ‘six-pointer’”

“I’ve been in a couple of clubs where it starts to play on the boys when they’re not winning games. Up here, that does not happen. The boys are upbeat, so the morale is pretty good at the moment.”

“I don’t think anyone would be here and I don’t think the gaffer would have anyone here if they were not going to give it their best shot. We would not be doing our jobs at all if that were the case.”

The 32-year-old skipper also had the chance to give a personal assessment of his own performances this season. He said:

“It has been very up and down, so I just need to keep going and hopefully have a strong finish to the season then see where next season takes us.

Vigurs has played 27 times for County this season, with only Alex Iacovitti and Harry Paton boasting more appearances so far.
