"We need to get wins"

11/02/2021

Ross Laidlaw caught up with us ahead of the visit of Hibernian to the Global Energy Stadium this Saturday.

The former Hibs goalkeeper recognises that the Staggies will enter the match as underdogs, but he believes his side have the quality to shock Hibs again, as they did at Easter Road in December. He said:

“It’s going to be tough, Hibs are doing really well just now, they’re not conceding many goals, they seem to have tightened up at the back, they’ve basically got a fully fit squad as well. So, we know how hard it’s going to be but we beat Hibs last time so we know we can do it!

“We know we’ve got the quality in the squad to do it, it’s more to do with the inconsistency of us, one week we’re playing really well and the next week our performances are dropping for 15-20 mins of a game and that’s what is killing us.”

After the loss to Dundee United at the weekend, Ross was asked about County’s disappointing form at the Global Energy Stadium this season.

Ross explained his and the squad’s eagerness to resume top performance at home again as well as explaining the impact that the lack of fans has had on his teammates when playing at home:

“I can’t really put my finger on why we’ve not really done as well at home this season, that’s probably been our biggest downfall. We’ve been okay on the road, but our home form isn’t great.

Not having the supporters there, giving us that extra support behind us, I think we’ve really missed the fans not being there and giving us a lift when we need it.

“If we want to stay in this league, we need to start picking up points at home.”

The Staggies keeper also reinforced the importance of picking up points as the Scottish Premiership season edges closer to its conclusion. He explained:

“Every game we go into now we need to win and try get points on the board because the 10 games to go are crucial for us to stay in the league and we all need to stand up to it and be brave.

“The game on Saturday is no different, we need to try and get a win, not just a point, if we want to stay in the league, we need to get wins.”
