"We need to uncover our identity again" Chairman

25/05/2021

Club Chairman Roy MacGregor has outlined that he wants to revisit “What Ross County is, what does it stand for and what does it represent” in an honest and revealing end of season interview with RCFCTV’s Rory Hamilton.

Following the successful climax to the season, where the Staggies retained their top-flight status, the Chairman wanted to look forward rather than backwards, with the Premiership set to become the strongest it has been in many years next campaign. With the strength of league Champions Rangers, the anticipated changes at Celtic and the return of Hearts coupled with the strength of city clubs across the league, its going to be a mouth-watering Premiership season ahead for the Staggies.

“On the Ross County journey, we have had 25 years- and particularly the first 15 years was a cause- ‘why is a team from the Highlands not being accepted in Scottish Football?’. So, as we came up through the leagues there was a journey and there was a cause and in 2010 there was a Scottish Cup Final that was a bit of a watershed and it created a belief.”

“But that belief has to have soul with it. So, after 10 years its ‘Where is the soul, where is the cause?’, you are a Premiership club but ‘who are you?’. So, as we go forward now, we have probably come to a junction in the road that we need to go and examine who we are, to understand if the values we had 25 years ago still apply today.”

“Football is very different to every other business. But the successful teams know who they are. Whether you are Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, the identity of that club is very clear and I do feel that from my position, that after 9 out of 10 years in the Premiership, we need to uncover our identity again and to make sure that for the next 10 years the direction is very clear and mapped out well.”

“We do need to take stock and particularly that relationship with the fan has to become stronger. We have less community clubs, which puts more pressure on us. We need to understand, clearly, where we are and where we need to go.”
