Laidlaw signs new Staggies Deal

03/01/2023

Ross County FC are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw has today signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal at the Global Energy Stadium.

Laidlaw who arrived at Ross County in summer 2019, earlier this season made his 100th appearance for the club and, with his new deal, he will now remain in Dingwall until summer 2026.

“It’s been fantastic to get this new contract in place in terms of committing to the club for a longer period. My family and I have really enjoyed our 3 and-a-half years here so far and we now look forward to the challenges ahead here in the Highlands.” Laidlaw said.

He added, “When I first arrived it was a club just coming back into the Premiership- in the last 3 seasons that I have been here we have retained our status in the league and clinched a top six finish and we want to try and keep building on the success the club has had in recent times.”

Following spells with Raith Rovers, Elgin City, Hibernian and Dundee United, Ross was signed to County following the club’s successful promotion back to the Premiership in 2019 under now CEO Steven Ferguson. During the 2019/20 & 2020/21 seasons, Ross was an integral part of The Staggies remaining in the top-flight and during the process collected the 2020/21 Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards for his efforts.

Laidlaw was also a key component in a Ross County side that would go on to finish in the cinch Premiership top six for the first time in six years last season under Malky Mackay. His consistent displays over a sustained period of time leading to a new deal for the stopper.

Manager Malky Mackay said, “Ross has been a very important part of this club over the last 3 seasons and his experience and commitment is exemplary. Personally, I am delighted to keep Ross in Dingwall, he is at the age now where he is becoming a real senior professional around the club and has made the Highlands a home for himself and his family.”

“Since I have been here and also before I came in as Manager, Ross has played a big part in the success of the football club and its important to try and retain players that have experienced those big moments. As well as that Ross has a big hand in developing some of our younger goalkeepers and helping them to grow which is invaluable to the goalkeeping department.” Malky added.
